How It Works
- Create an account. Access is free in this version.
- Optional: Add a profile photo. It will appear on your certificate of achievement and on the leaderboards if you opt in for those.
- Optional: Take a free practice test before taking the official assessment.
-
Begin your official assessment.
-
You will see a short security screen reminding you that once you click the “Begin Assessment” button,
- Your screen will go to “Fullscreen.”
- Your camera will watch to make sure you are not looking elsewhere.
- Your microphone will listen for any possible outside help.
- When you click, “Begin Assessment,” your computer will go through a brief calibration for the camera and the microphone.
- You will proceed to complete the assessment independently in a quiet room. The microphone detects sustained room noise but does not record audio. Keep your sound on so you can hear a reminder if your face is no longer visible.
- Five still assessment snapshots are saved with the official assessment for placement on its certificate. These are separate from the optional profile photo.
- Answer 30 questions. Questions are selected at random from a large question bank and progress from easier to more difficult. The questions use the same terminology as the rule books.
- Finish within 20 minutes. This is more than ample time for most people.
- Review your results. HoopsRef shows your score, reveals the correct answers, and explains any answers you missed.
- Create your certificate of achievement. This shows the date, your name, optional profile photo, your score, and your star rating. It will also include five small random snapshots of you during the exam along the bottom. This will allow the more serious reviewer to confirm it was you taking the test.
- Optional: Opt in to leaderboards for your overall personal best, your overall best factoring in your time, and your best for the first-time you took it.
